MesopotamiaThey were Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates river which provided Mesopotamia with a plentiful water source. A fun fact is that Mesopotamia is a Greek word meaning 'between the rivers'. The land was flat and quite fertile due to seasonal rains, and the rivers and streams flowing from the mountains. This earned Mesopotamia it's nickname, "The Fertile Crescent." Its climate was very warm which helped sustain life.

Iraq Iraq's geography is diverse and falls into four main regions: the desert (west of the Euphrates), Upper Mesopotamia (between the upper Tigris and Euphrates rivers), the northern highlands of Iraqi Kurdistan, and Lower Mesopotamia, the alluvial plain extending from around Tikrit to the Persian Gulf. The climate is much drier however. Iraq often calls Mesopotamia the humanity's cradle of civilization because of its good soil.
